The Point turned it on all event — proper cooking surf that had the crowd buzzing from the first horn to the last, giving every division exactly the canvas they needed to put on a show. Conditions like that have a way of bringing out the best in people, and the field this year was stacked enough to make the most of every set that rolled through.
Across a full slate of divisions — Open Men, Open Women, Over 40s, Over 50s, Locals Only, Pro Juniors, Parents and Offspring, Expression Session, and a Paddle Race — the Classic once again proved it’s one of the most inclusive and well-run events on the WA calendar. Hats off to the organisers who kept the whole day running like clockwork, no small feat when you’re juggling that many draws. And the sponsors? Absolutely loaded the prize table.
Ben Spence took out the Open Men’s final in convincing fashion, punching his ticket to the 2026 WSL Trials and etching his name alongside a long and celebrated list of past champions. Behind him, Jack Mitchell was excellent in second, with Jack Teague and Jolan Bonelli rounding out a final that had the spectators on their feet.
Also adding their name to the prestigious list of champions, Bronte Macaulay was imperious in the Open Womens — the former WSL competitor was clearly at home in solid Margs surf. Mia McCarthy pushed her all the way in second, with Kaleisha Launders third and Lily Naylor fourth in what was a high-quality final from start to finish.
The Over 40s went to Jesse Malloy, who showed the groms exactly how it’s done with a performance that was all smooth lines and good decisions. Paul Dupuy claimed the Over 50s — proof that Margs has no shortage of veterans who can still absolutely go. George Simpson took the Locals Only bragging rights, which always carries a little extra weight when it’s your home break on the line. And Okie Fraser was the standout in the Pro Juniors, a result that’ll do his confidence no harm at all heading into the rest of the season.
Everyone made the natural migration to Settlers Tavern for the after party and awards presentation — cold drinks, good people, good vibes. The kind of evening that reminds you why the surf community in Margaret River is genuinely something special.
The 2025 Classic is done and dusted. Already looking forward to the next one.
